My Good Samaritan Story
This happened around 10 years back, when I was roaming around jobless after my engineering studies. Understandably, Dad and me were not at the best of terms. We were fighting with each other whenever there was an opportunity. One day I took the Maruti Omni and went for my usual rounds. Those were the days without mobiles. For some reason, I called home, to find out that Dad was fuming since he was waiting for the car for a long time. I immediately started for home with my friend. We were nearing my house when I noticed a large crowd on the roadside. They were waving at me to stop. As I slowed down, I noticed a man sitting there, with blood all over him. The crowd asked me to help them take the guy to a hospital. I immediately threw open the van door, and they brought him in. I became an ambulance, started honking and rushed to the nearest hospital, which happened to be a private one. They refused to take him, saying they didn't wanna take accident cases since they would get into trouble. I was seething, and shouted at them for a while, bu to no avail. The poor guy was in terrible pain, but they were least bothered. So I left the fight for another day, and sped to the nearest government hospital, which was some distance away. I passed by many private hospitals but didn't bother to stop since they would all react the same way. Finally, we reached the government hospital and took him to the casualty where the staff gave him the necessary treatment. We said bye to the guy (who couldn't react much due to the pain) and left the hospital. We were feeling good about being good Samaritans. Until I remembered my Dad's temper! Off we went, to my home. My friend waited a few blocks away, being scared of my dad. I reached home, and dad was waiting there impatiently. I wasn't in a mood to explain my heroics; I just went inside and gave the keys to mom, all the while hearing noise (scoldings). I later explained to mom what happened, and she said the same to dad. We didn't talk about it, but dad didn't shout at me much after that.
