The Nokia Lumia 800 - First hand review
Since the time Microsoft showed off glimpses of their new windows mobile os
sometime back, I've been wanting to get my hands on one of them. Well, I
got a Nokia Lumia 800 and have been playing with it for the last few
days, thought I'll pitch in my first impressions. The Screen
The screen is awesome to the power 2!!! The brightness and the clarity
simply blows me away! The Touch
Nokia had a problem with touch in some of their earlier models, so I was a
bit worried. But rest assured, the touch experience is good and I have no
reason to complain so far. Its very responsive and accurate. Hope it stays
that way after a year as well. Typing
The typing experience has been very good so far. I typed some stuff pretty
fast and there are hardly any errors. The intelligence is good, and auto
corrections have been spot-on so far. The on screen keyboard takes up most
of the screen real estate, so what you can see while you type, is pretty
less, but the typing experience has improved considerably due to that, so i
shouldn't complain. The OS
I simple love this os. Its not 100% perfect yet, but I wanna support this
guy, cos' this one's cool in more ways than one. It has totally changed the
user interface for a phone and brought in some fresh changes. I'm sure this
will spur the others to make their OS more beautiful.
I had my share of gripes in the first few days, the main irritant being
WiFi. It wouldn't connect to my home WiFi, and there was nothing to do on
the phone without a net connection. I searched online and found that this
was a problem for many lumia 800 users. After a while, found a few
solutions but nothing seemed to work. I had to even remove the security
password for the network but it didn't budge from its stubborn stand. The
next morning however, i just tried once and it connected instantly! I had
connectivity problems a few more times, but it seems to be working fine now. The Apps
I checked out the windows marketplace, which is the app store for windows
phone. Its good and growing. Found a number of interesting apps, and trying
them out now. Not too many apps as on the iTunes or android market, but
still enough to get by, I suppose. Whatever I searched for was there, so
its alright. Summary
The Nokia Lumia 800 is an awesome phone with the latest Windows Phone OS in
it. As the OS gets further updates in the next few months, I expect it to
become more awesome than now.
