My Ice Skating Adventures

Iceskating2

I know a bit of roller skating, or rather, much more than a bit. So armed with this knowledge, when i saw an ice skating opportunity, i decided to try it out. I was at London at that time. Saw an ad about an Ice Rink at Queensland. I was free that day, so i planned to go there. Was about to leave, when i noticed one of my friends Gopal online. Asked him if he was interested, and he agreed. So off we went to the ice rink. Reached there, took the tickets, got the skates and started wearing them. They were blue in colour......

I don’t remember anything more. The rest of my memory from that day has been erased forever.

I found the rest of the story from my friend and my family. It goes like this...

We started skating. I was doing ok, and he was slowly picking up. He noticed that I fell down. He came to me and asked whether I was ok. I looked at him and asked, “Are you Gopal Gireesan?” He laughed it off and went skating again. He thought I was joking. After a few minutes, he saw that I was still sitting in the same place and looking dazed. He realized that something was wrong, and decided to take me home. We left the place and went to the station. He then found out that I was not able to remember anything, not even my house! He didn’t know my house, just the street where I was living. We got the train and came to my street. He was wondering what to do next, when suddenly my brother in law saw us, and came and talked to us. Gopal explained what happened, and we went to my house. Gopal left me home safe and left. Wonder what would have happened if I had not seen him online at that time and I had gone alone!

Anyways, my family took me to the hospital, the doctors did some checkups on me. They said I had a concussion and lost the memory for the day. Asked me to rest for a week. We went back home. I remained dazed for an entire week. I couldn’t remember what had happened, and my mom and sister were not explaining anything other than occasional cold stares at me (they were terrified by the whole episode).

After a week, I became normal. I called up Gopal and he told me the whole story. My family also told me what happened at home. And made me promise never to ice skate again.

I kept that promise. For around a year and a half. Then I ice skated again. This time, I did it well. I didn’t fall. In fact, I took around 20 of my friends for ice skating and taught them all, and had some fun times. Even taught a few Brits a thing or two about skating.

Last year, when I went to Dubai, I ice skated again. It was great to be back on ice.
