Post production of photographs

For the last many years, i was of the opinion that a good photo depends purely on the photographer's skill of taking the photo. i had always felt that modifying the photo after it was taken, was a form of cheating. anyone could take a bad snap, modify it with photoshop and make it great looking. So i stuck on to taking photos, and trying to get it right without any later modifications.
However, now i am starting to see it from a different angle. Post production is in itself, a tough and demanding work. Not everyone can touch-up a photo and make it look nice. The ultimate aim is to have a good looking photograph for viewers. This involves photographic skills + photo editing skills.
Hence, I have decided to learn to modify photographs and make them visually more appealing. Anyway, that's what all professional photographers do, since the final product is what sells.
I would still classify them separately though, as pure photographs and edited ones. Atleast for now.
Picasa 3 has some very simple editing features, which i am trying out now. i'll upload a few samples here. I've Photoshop CS2, so gotta work on that as well. All the best to me.
